VISIT THEKKADY

19 July 2023

Thekkady is a traveler's paradise since it has spice farms, tea gardens, a wildlife refuge, and a healthy population of indigenous tribes. The area's primary draw is the Periyar Tiger Reserve. The majority of resorts and hotels are concentrated around the nearby town of Kumily. The sanctuary does live up to its lofty promises, with thrillingly well-beautifully organized activities. It's likely the only reserve in the world that permits visitors to camp and hike inside the forest region.Observe Malabar Hornbills soaring through the treetops as you float on charming bamboo rafts over reservoir waters. Native tribes are housed in the reserve, where they continue to benefit from the forest's bounty in a mutually beneficial partnership. Former sandalwood smugglers and poachers have now become the jungle's guardians and guides, and the stories of their life make for compelling campfire tales at night. You can get a glimpse of a way of life that is otherwise unknown through elephant safaris, car tours, and boat rides. Experience the best of tribal culture at the dances the Forest Department organizes. Huge tea gardens and spice plantations, some of which date back to the British era, may be found on the hills surrounding Thekkady. The spice gardens in this area are very highly recommended and have even been featured on BBC's Around the World in 80 Gardens...
